This is off the top of my head so someone correct me if I got something wrong. Amuro, Kai, Mirai, Sayla and Hayato are soldiers from the start of the movie, not civilians. Fraw is still a civilian, but she and the rest of the refugees are offloaded at Luna 2. There is no earth story arc, with the death of Garma taking place in earth orbit. There's no guntank, Sayla and Amuro get together, and the RX-78-2 gets trashed at the Texas colony and is replaced by the Gundam G3. There are a few new Zeon characters and the White Base is called the Pegasus instead. Finally, the biggest difference of all is that Amuro dies near the end and the Pegasus crew join with Char to overthrow the Zabis.Zeta: Kamiyu loses his mind and THEN commits suicide. It's not even something Scirroco did. He starts losing his mind even before going into the last battle. While Four's death made him stronger in the anime, it broke him down in the novel. He starts imagining other MS as his parents, and freaks out when Zeta loses an arm because he thinks it's his real arm. At the end, the nail in the coffin comes when Rosamia and Gates kill each other right in front of Kamiyu, just as he's accepted Rosamia as a second "mother." Gundam Mk 2 was lost in space. Gouf is spelled differently. グフ instead of グーフ. The O is a lot more powerful. Its body is covered with multiple Mega Particle Cannons. Four's Story: The story of Four's training at Murasame Lab. Four actually lost her memory during the One Year War after being orphaned. Originally, Four didn't care for her memory, as she didn't think it was anything worth remembering. Then, Professor Murasame introduced her to fellow trainees whom she developed a friendship with. Amari(Number 6) and Jiru(Number 5). It is mentioned that Jiru is the brother of Miharu from the original series. Rosamia from Zeta is also mentioned to have witnessed a colony drop which left her with severe trauma. Cut a long story short, Jiru dies during a test of the prototype Psyco Gundam. (While the Psycommu system catches brainwaves, there is a danger of the system working in reverse and frying the pilot's brain.) Amari tries to escape and is killed. Four's memory is then intentionally wiped, but Professor Murasame leaves enough of it that she yearns for the memory of her friends and will do anything to retrieve it.Beltochika's Children: Amuro's son isn't yet born in the novel. Yet, the kid can use crazy newtype powers from his mother's womb. Definitely the strongest newtype ever. Ending is more or less the same though there is more focus on the involvement of the entire human race in the finale. Goodbye Amuro and Char. Also, Quess is such a aggressive go-getter she ends up being described as "like a howling wild animal" and has to be killed by Hathaway, which sets the stage for the Senkou No Hathaway novel. Even so, the shadow of a fertile and abundant Earth still exists, causing certain individuals to lust for an easier life. Two men share this yearning. They were once enemies on the battlefield, and later became comrades in arms. They were two men whose paths were entwined by one woman. As time passes, these two men, driven by their own will, return to outer space. They are going to meet for the third time, but this event is not guided by fate. It is simply their will converging upon such an outcome. It is an encounter neither has scheduled in advance. This is all due to their constantly changing thoughts; they have the flexibility to gradually adapt to new situations. Should they be anchored down to a point and be bound by a train of thought, they would feel as if they were suffocating. This feeling has caused them to develop their unique ideals. However, humans are creatures that only have one physical body. Memories that are hidden deep within the confines of the body, along with so-called “emotions”, have always restricted their development. As a result, those who are always quick to embrace change will develop the urge to provoke one-another. Had they not found each other in the first place this conflict might have been avoided.Unfortunately, they could find no other Newtypes... Il primo capitolo: In the morning, to be able to wake up as late as possible is a blessed affair. Even so, if it happens day after day, can it still be considered an accident?
If our purpose in life is to seek enjoyment, then we need to invent entertaining activities that we will never tire of. Should this ever be the case, we may never stop killing each other...
However, “living” is not about seeking such an intense phenomenon.
Humans are slow and stupid.
They are only concerned with feeling comfortable. If they are able to enjoy a moment of happiness, they do not require more. A large part of life is spent on “What shall I eat? What shall I wear? When should I visit the toilet? When should I bathe” and such other trivial matters.
Those unable to experience life in this way do not think at all. During their daily lives, they cannot acquire proper food or portable water because they do not have any consumption “standpoint”.
In order to support these needs, a basic economical structure needs to be created. For this reason, no matter if you are a blue or white collar worker, you endure and force yourself to work. This is a difficult thing; but without such work, going to the bar, grabbing a drink, and chatting with others becomes a special treat to lift one’s spirit.
If everyday life became a holiday, then what would this extended holiday be?
“Murder clubs… I heard rumors about them.”
“… Mmm …”
Beltorchika buried her thick lips in Amuro’s chest. “Mmmmmm…”
“Is that true?”
“On Earth, it seems such of games exist...”
“… So, if the rest of life becomes a vacation, will we know how to live properly?”
“People are like this now. If this goes on, do you think that comforting feelings will still exist?”
“Huaaa huaaa...”
Beltorchika grunted sensually.
“When I’m with you, Amuro, I always feel good... I don’t care about any of that.”
“Really? Don’t you feel embarrassed saying that? Get off me, my chin is hurting... Bel-chan your chin is too sharp...”
Amuro grabbed Beltorchika’s hair with both hands and lifted her off.
“That hurt!”
Snorting, Beltorchika sat up, used both her hands to wrap a towel around herself and stood up from the bed.
“You’re too rough!”
Beltorchika’s lustful voice, well defined back and soft, uniform bottoms disappeared from the room.
“Yeah… I can be like that sometimes…”
Amuro continued the thought in his mind.
Towards who? Amuro didn’t understand, but he had the strange habit of talking to himself. He raised his right hand to open the blinds.
“…!?”
It didn’t seem like dawn- the sunlight resembled noon. Their bedroom was enveloped by the sunlight. The feelings of both pride and shame entwined with each other and rushed up the chest of the half naked Amuro.
“… Ah shit...”
This was also meaningless talk.
Amuro adjusted the angle of the blinds and his lower jaw while examining his upper body. He was surprise by the robustness of his body. The small chest hair he had, like the hair on his head, was a weird reddish tint.
“… It doesn’t seem similar at all... ?”
He thought in his heart, as that did not resemble that of either of his parents.
“I’m not a bastard child, am I?...”
This was something to be worried about when it came to his mother, Kamaria Ray. He had learned as much in his youth. When he thought about how his father, Tem Ray, the fact that he was Tem’s son could not be easily denied.
“Father sure died at a good time…”
His change of thought was sudden.
The sound made by the running shower could be clearly heard.
The sound was more intense then usual, but Amuro didn’t notice.
Firstly, this was because his feelings were sagging; and secondly (how shall we say this?) common noise from everyday life would not wake him from his thoughts.
Amuro’s mind might occasionally be a mess, but this was only part of everyday life, after all.
He decided that he was going to get out of bed.
A feeling of having to face reality, finally made him think about what was going on. Having to leave the “nest” he shared with Beltorchika was actually a rather compelling thought.
When spending time together with Beltorchika, they isolated themselves from all facets of reality, so that the two of them were alone together, and their relationship didn’t feel so ragged. This was not just in terms of sex. If they let various “messy” events get in-between them in the rare times that they were alone, they would not care about each other. Had that happened, such a “nest” would not exist.
Therefore, in order to leave this “nest”, some courage is needed.
“… It says they can’t see any movement of the “Sweetwater’ fleet? That’s a lie!”
The sound of running water continued in the shower. Amuro felt apologetic towards Beltorchika as he used the keyboard of the computer terminal on his desk next to the bed and downloaded Londo Bell’s data. This was another bad habit of his.
Amuro straightened himself and mindlessly gazed at the monitor.
“Char’s motives have changed?”
Displayed on the screen was secret data processed by the Ra Cailum, the military vessel that Amuro was assigned to. Only people of Amuro’s rank were able to access it.
“…Going to make a move soon. Then I definitely must leave by tonight.”
Even though the situation was so, the unit had not formally sent him a notice. This was because most of the things that required Amuro’s presence had already been done. However, it wasn’t complete, it was just prepared.
Even if he had spent every day rushing around to help prepare against Char’s fleet, Londo Bell had always been pretty well prepared, so Amuro was required to do very little.
In addition, the commanding office of the Earth Federation Forces had yet to issue an order to move out.
However, Char, who they had their sights on, had already moved his fleet out of Sweetwater last night.
Thus, Amuro and Beltorchika had to realize that this is most likely their last break.
Before Amuro entered the bathroom, he printed out the log from the news transmission and several pieces of other information.
At the same time, Beltorchika entered the kitchen to prepare food. These activities seem normal in Amuro’s house, but it was actually busier than usual, as it was, after all, an odd period of rest time.
“… Last night’s information has leaked out. Char’s fleet left Sweetwater. The Sweetwater government has also made an unilateral statement to support Neo Zeon…”
Amuro placed the newspaper down on the television. When he is alone, Amuro always avoids being disturbed by external noises.
“When is it?”
Beltorchika Irma, upon commencing her meal, asked Amuro.
“It’s tonight, I guess. The attack…”
“I don’t understand. Then, should I go to Anaheim Electronics, like we planned?”
Beltorchika, who was in her intimate undergarments, was also starting to talk about work.
“Let’s do it. You’ll help me make the final adjustments to the Hi-Nu Gundam. Londo Bell only has that suit usable.”
“Before we go, I’ll buy a few things. Has ReGZ, that MS, been assigned to Astonaige?”
“Of course. Compared to you, Bel-chan, he’s more professional.”
“I’m very sorry then…”
Beltorchika held a cup of milk in her hands and gave a shrill laugh.
“ All right, help me to buy some frozen strawberries, because on the way back, I want to eat something sweet…”
Amuro went along with Beltorchika’s shopping topic.
“Okay…”
Planning ahead on what to do before returning home, that was a characteristic of military personnel.
If people were rushing out on a trip, they would not need to think about returning. Like rushing out to buy a model kit but end up only looking at the manual; buying some ingredients to make pickled vegetables by drying them in the living room, and yet at the same time prepared canned food. This was something an average soldier would do.
But Amuro has forgotten these natural instincts because he has unconsciously lost the basic foundation of family values.
Amuro finished his preparations, kissed Beltorchika and walked out of his apartment.
The small lanes of Karsi**(Note: I can’t properly translate the name. It is a location in India, can be a street or even a city name), a market district located in the northern part of India, has retained its original look from several hundred years ago.
After entering the age of space colonies, and the forced migration to outer space, the number of residents had declined until it had been almost abandoned. However, the entirety of India was considered a “special zone”, so a few people moved around the place.
Today, there were a few black cars speeding around nosily. In addition, several police officers wearing special protection used for “man-hunting” were also running about.
On Earth, there are several Earth Federation Forces “special zones”. To put it simply, they might be called “Nature Reserves”.
When it comes to India, due to religious implication, its status as a “Holy Land” has been preserved.
Thus, there are a lot of people coming in from the various colonies to visit it, and due to the popularity of religion, the place has also become a tourist attraction for the younger generations.
However, it is not as lively as it was in the past, as no one is actually allowed to reside there. The reason why it is fairly crowded is because trade with tourists is allowed. Though it is contradictory, it is the way things are.
The police agency of the Earth Federation Forces, even though they watch over the people who are coming in and out, have no intention of managing the huge land of India. However, the Earth Federation Forces, in order to not let people notice this face, will occasionally (out of the blue) go after those who have broken the law. As the action is, their actions are very aggressive while they pursue targets. Due to this, they have been branded “Man Hunters”.
Today, the action was different from their usual “Manhunts”.
“What is it?”
“Are they searching for someone?”
This was a strange rumor. Man Hunters did not search for specific people. Random selection was more of their way of operating. After that, they would pack a predetermined amount of people into the escort car behind them and vanish like the wind.
If it was just like that, it would be easier to handle, but Man Hunters, while apprehending their targets, tend to half-heartedly use their weapons, resulting in at least ten innocent victims per raid. Because of this, several bad rumors were circulating constantly.
It is said that some people paid their way into become a Man Hunters. India was probably the only place left now that still practiced the word “hunting”.
“Are they searching for a specific person?”
The lane was no wider then three meters, but due to the changing times, it could now be considered a big street. Some people were in the center of the lane. They were old Hindus who lived in the corners of darkened rooms and were talking in a muffled voices while waiting for the Man Hunters to pass by.
“Sigh... ! As I said, we should not have let Quess join us!”
The last man spoke angrily while running.
A girl of about ten years of age stuck out among the bunch of youths that were running in front of him.
“Then, you shouldn’t have followed!”
The girl in front cursed while rounding yet another bend.
“Oh!”
She jumped past the white bones of a cow’s corpse. Following her, the bunch of youth also jumped past that pile of white bones.
“Wu…!”
The man who was complaining tripped over the pile of bone, fell seemingly head-first into a pile of feces and landed on the pavement.
“A boat should be there after we get out of this river dike right?”
An intelligent looking youth who overtook the girl asked. They were dressed in what could be considered as a “vagrant” manner. Their jeans had holes and their vests were tattered and torn.
“Christina!”
The young man that had fallen down yelled miserably.
“Don’t look!” The young man that was in front slid down a slope that was next to the horizontal river.
Bang!
When the gun shot was heard resonating from the houses, the young woman named Christina lifted up her ragged long skirt and slid down the slope. The girl following behind her did not bother with her shorts, and just slid down the muddy ground that was mixed with cow feces.
Following that, another two young men followed and slid down.
The flow of the horizontal river, compared to a hundred years ago, had dropped by half. They ran through the gap between the river dike and the old shore, a flat river bed of around ten meter or so in width.
The river dikes were used by the Hindus in the past as bathing facilities. At the area where the water flowed to the lower regions, various Man Hunters could be seen coming down by the ladders on the river dikes.
At the same time, old fashion gas-propelled patrol cars, which were following the route the group of young people were fleeing on, started to drive down the slope.
At the central part of the river bed, where water was flowing, was a small boat made from thick wood. However when the leading young man jumped onboard, intending to ride it, it gradually started to sink.
“Huh…?”
That muddy colored water, relentlessly submerged half of the small boat.
“Swim over!”
Christina who had lifted her skirt up, loosened the powdery mud from her legs and patted the back of the girl following closely behind her.
The young girl who was wearing a cowboy vest was suddenly startled and slipped, her feet landing on the bottom of the river.
“Eeeek!”
The young man who was standing on the small boat gave a sharp groan and felt the gathering water.
“Ah?”
“Do not try to escape!” This voice came from the heavily armored transport vehicle that had slid down the ladders of the river dike and charged into the river head. The machine guns positioned on top were all aimed at them.
Man Hunter patrol cars were located downstream, armored cars were on the river bank and behind them, and they scattered dust as they closed in.
That black mask and thick defensive gear were used to protect the vital parts of the human body and could also hide a person’s appearance.
“We didn’t get it wrong?”
“This little imp here is Quess Paraya!”
The Man Hunter who was commanding the operation from the top of the armored transport vehicle made the confirmation.
“You have nowhere else to run! I’m arresting the whole lot of you for abducting a minor!”
The young girl who was protected by the band of youths did not understand the meaning behind those words, but she understood that the “minot” was her: she was the youngest among them.
“What are you all saying?”
“You’re Quess Paraya, right? We’re here to protect you. Come here, quickly!”
Suddenly their speech became more courteous.
“You Man Hunters!”
The man who was beside Christina, suddenly strangled the girl called Quess and made a twisting action.
“Now Quess is going to die! If you all insist on doing this, we will not hand her over until our safety is guaranteed!”
“Milton!”
Christina wanted to pull away the man’s hand, but Quess had already bitten his arm.
“Quess!”
Quess went a bit limp. After that, the man fell to the ground, as if his body was a wooden club, and lifted up a cloud of powdery mud.
Quess spat out a mouthful of saliva. “… These people are friendly!”
The man hunter paid no attention to Quess’ words and leisurely continued.
“What is it? What do you all want?”
Christina spoke to the Man Hunters intensely, and her metallic necklace echoed her words..
“People who randomly find amusement on earth, what else do you want to say?”
The Man Hunter who was standing in front of Christina slowly turned around and slamed his baton into her chest, right where her heart was.
“Ahhhhh…!”
Christina’s body collapsed forward and lay flat on top of the coarse river bed.
“That’s too much!”
“Quess Paraya, please come with us.”
The man hunter who was standing in front of the young girl once again spoke using a polite tone, but he still did not remove the black visor. They were all arrogant.
“I don’t want to!”
“Your father is waiting for you.”
Two Man Hunters walked closer and lifted her up by her armpits. Quess feet floated above the ground, and no matter how shestruggled, she couldn’t get away.
Bang, bang, bang!
Shots rang out behind them.
“You…!”
Sunlight shone into Quess mouth as she screamed.
This wass the current situation in India.
“How is the situation?
“Boring. We’re heading for 5th Luna. It looks like Char is following the plan, just like Amuro predicted…”
“We won’t do anything stupid and let him invade earth, right?”
“It won’t end up that way. It wasn’t easy for the commanding office of the Earth Federation Forces to give permission. Those guys were planning only on making a move after the battle ended!”
Bright Noa, the captain of the Ra Cailum and Amuro Ray were finally relieved.
What they hated was not that their fleet couldn’t move out if Lhasa didn’t issue an order. They would take matters into their own hands if it came down to that. Doing so, though, might have resulted in life in prison. The most important thing, however, was to act instead of just sitting around and thinking. The Earth Federation couldn’t afford to wait and take the damage .
Their enemy was now Char Aznable and the fleet he commanded – the Neo Zeon.
That man, to Amuro and Bright, was a special entity that they could not personally ignore.
“Captain, supply will be done in another three hours. Everything is going on smoothly.”
Amuro, using the monitor on the bridge to observe the loading sequence of the MS squad, was preparing a report, as was demanded by his rank of Captain. ** (Note: Amuro’s rank is “Captain”, but Bright is the captain of the ship.)
“Understood! Captain**(Note: Referring to Amuro here), leave it to us, we will make an end to that traitor!”
Bright seemed to be forcing himself to find some parting words.
“Don’t be too hot blooded. Captain……?”
It was Amuro. The feeling he was having was the same as Bright’s.
Thinking back, both of them were “reared” in a drifting state by the Earth Federation Forces. This battle could be a chance for them to vent their frustration. Of course, it was very clear that they could not look at battle in such a wat , but it couldn’t be helped that those feelings still existed.
Char was not a person to be underestimated. As things were at the moment, he couldn’t be let near the earth.
“I understand, I’ll mellow down…… Is Beltorchika still heading to the moon, as planned?”
“Aye. The work on the Hi-nu Gundam seems to be behind schedule.” “Will there be a need for it in the future? We do have a modified ReGZ until then. How’s that? Is that okay?”
“I’ll use it! Bright, are you okay?”
“No problems. Using the annual pension given by the army, my wife and kids should be able to get by. Yeah, that’s the only good part about the Earth Federation.”
“Mirai’s strong. Even up in the colonies, she can survive.”
“Can you believe this? ‘Til today, I haven’t gone into space for long while.. From White Base to Argama and then to Neo Argama as a captain, even though I was always nicknamed by you as an “old-fashioned father”, for some reason those guys in Lhasa has also treat me as a Newtype. They always kept me under observation, treating as if I would rebel upon entering space... so they have bound me to earth?”
Bright Noa was suddenly transferred to Londo Bell a month back, which was partly due to his vast combat experience. If Char was not stationed in one of the space colonies, Sweetwater, his military career would have been spent on earth forever more.
“Prepare for launch! Start the countdown!”
“Understood!”
Brightshouted. The vice captain, Melan, supervised preparations to leave the dock while Amuro went down to the MS deck.
“Captain! Please do not head in front with just your ReGZ! If you get into any trouble out there, you’ll cause your wife to be sad. I don’t want to see that happen.”
Pilot Lieutenant Kayla Su, slid below the modified MS Re GZ and went to the highest mobile deck.
“Would you not say that? I don’t remember having a wife.”
“Is that so... then, that who is that lady who has that similar name to ‘Londo Bell’?”
“She’s a comrade!”
“Eh? You didn’t marry her?”
“Beltorchika didn’t like the idea, and I didn’t really encourage it… If there is a need, we’ll go through all of the necessary formalities.”
“In what kind of situation?” “Er... If there is a child, and a warm family location is needed, Beltorchika and I will go through with it... I guess.”
“Is that okay?”
“Well, I guess there’s no choice…”
Grr!Baaa!
From inside the ship, the sound of the armor undergoing vacuum preparation could be heard. The Ra Cailum was in space.
“Kayla, is the ReGZ ready?”
“Well, if we installed the backpack, the mobility of the machine would drop too much!”
“I understand. I won’t force things.”
“Whatever you say...”
The ReGZ was a MS based on the frame of the Z Gundam, with different armor. It wasn’t very high performance, and a backpack containing a mega particle beam cannon used in cruisers was to be installed, to turn it into a support MS.
Amuro had strongly encouraged them to be mass produced, so as to supplement the inferiority of the Jegan, the main MS of Londo Bell. However, this effort was semi-wasted by the appointment of Bright.
The Earth Federation Forces had requested requested in-advance that Anaheim Eletronics, which is around Von Braun, to develop a new MS and deploy it to Londo Bell as part of Bright’s appointment, effectively making it Bright’s gift.
Amuro let this MS be equipped with the psycommu system that he had designed, turning it into a piece of equipment specifically used by Londo Bell. This was the Hi-Nu Gundam.
Even though their offensive abilities were limited, the Earth Federation Forces were not willing to let Newtypes use Gundam-type MS, hiding them away like atomic weapons.
They worked too narrow-mindedly.
Accompanying the flag slip Ra Calium were three Ra Clop-class cruisers. Together they headed on a straight trajectory toward 5th Luna.
During this time, they needed to investigate Char’s motives for moving his fleet there and be ready to receive any commands coming from Lhasa. Thus, the fleet needed to continuously monitor astrological objects and constantly conduct laser communication with headwuarters.
This wass a very primitive job.
With the advancement of computers, navigating a fleet was easier, even with the radar-interference caused by Minovsky particles. However, due to these particles, all forms of wireless communication are knocked-out. They have to resort to laser transmission. Even than, as high frequency waves might bend due to the influence of Minovsky Particles, they have to ultimately rely on Morse Code.
If observation wasn’t needed in this kind of stressful environment, which was vital to understand the situation, most wars in space would end up being just a simple exchange of missiles, and would come to a swift conclusion.
This being as it is, melee combat still exists in space. Things like MS, humanoid machines which previously existed only in the realm of comics, were now dominating space battles.
On the MS deck that Amuro was standing on, there were nine of these humanoid machines - Jegans- with him.
Should we call it height or machine length? This machine was around eighteen meters; a true giant. The part that resembled a chest had a small hatch, through which is a spherical cockpit. Inside, there is a chair located right at the center and on the walls of the sphere is a three hundred and sixty degree display. The images shown on them are the same as what the pilot would see around him. This is done by using various cameras to capture the surrounding view, and after being processed by the computer, the images shown in the cockpit as a three hundred and sixty degree image.
As this kind of images is produced based on the visual equivalent of the “eye level”, it has been called “All Seeing Equipment”, “All Angle Display Equipment”, and “Reality Monitor”, among other names.
However, the kind of images produced by these computers has been changed to that similar to video games. Even though it is simple to change the display to be realistic, if those highly intensive images are directly displayed on the monitors, it is not uncommon for pilot to entering a state of anxiety.
Thus, the images produced by the panoramic monitor has been changed to resemble that of video game devices.
On the other hand, it is exceedingly popular for the video game devices commonly available to feature more realistic software.
In this situation, even though it needs the pilot to enter into a realistic battle, there is a greater need not to terrify the pilots. Il terzo capitolo: Above Quess’ Head
At the Karsi Police Headquarters, after Quess Paraya was retrieved by her father Adenauer Paraya, they immediately headed toward the New Delhi airport on a jet plane and entered the International Departure Hall. It all happened so fast; only a few hours had passed from being caught in the river bed to meeting her father, who arrived by helicopter .
This was only possible because Quess’ father, Adenauer Paraya, was a high ranking officer that had been assigned the position of “Commanding Officer of the Earth Federation Forces.” If this had not been so, the police would not have mobilized such a large operation just to search for a single child.
The person that Quess detested the most was waiting. She hid behind her father, pretending not to notice the woman.
“Quess…?”
“Why do I have to take the same flight as her?” Quess turned her back on Adenauer and began to head outside.
“Quess! Bear with it! We only have to reach space. After that, you can do as you wish.” Adenauer spoke in a gentle tone to try and coax Quess. Even though he appeared imposing, he had no choice but to act sweetly toward his daughter.
“Space?” Quess stopped. She couldn’t help thinking that there was something fishy behind her father’s words, as he had never shown a desire to go to space even though he was an officer in the Earth Federation.
“Indeed. Earth is too dangerous. Just go along with it temporarily, together with mama…”
“That woman is not my mother!”
“You just have to wait a while. Once we’re in space, you can do as you wish. So…”
“Really? Are you telling the truth?”
“Of course.” Adenauer patted Quess on the shoulder and they walked together with the porter toward the woman. She was Adenauer’s current wife, and she was waiting to the side of the departure counter with a few other men.
“Sorry for keeping you.”
“Why was it so slow?” The woman spoke placidly to Adenauer, seemingly not paying any attention to Quess.
Quess was complaining in her heart, but stopped when she thought about leaving the hall; it was filled with the awful stench of decaying, dry flowers.
“Well, goodbye, sir. We anticipate your results.”
“Ah, goodbye… Quess?”
Quess silently walked in front of the group, gazing at her father’s arms as they wrapped around the waist of the woman as they descended the stairs toward the terminal. There the majestic body of the Oriental Express reclined in an upright position under the hot climate of India.
“It’s a chartered flight?” Quess set her mind at ease because there would be many passengers, thereby reducing the chance of seeing “that woman’s” face.
Adenauer, after seating his wife in the front row, went to the next row back to check on Quess.
“How is it?”
“What do you mean?”
“Err… I bought a house at Londenion in SIDE-1. I thought it will be to your linking.”
“Why didn’t you say so earlier? It’s because you live on Earth that you were cheated by her!” Quess intentionally allowed the woman in question to hear her.
“… Quess…!” Adenauer looked helpless. He was just following the wishes of his wife.
“Will you call mama over, then?”
“That’s not possible. She hasn’t sent us a single letter since leaving for space…” Adenauer stopped when he noticed his “current” wife approaching him from the passageway.
“That’s different from what you said earlier! Didn’t you say that we were escaping to some other safe place on Earth? You didn’t say anything about space!”
“Chara! Char has already moved his forces. My mission is to negotiate with him to prevent the battle from spreading. Otherwise, you’ll all be crushed by Char’s plan to drop an asteroid…”
“Doesn’t the Earth Federation have their space forces and Londo Bell?”
“Because Lhasa’s situation has not stabilized, we can’t properly gather the space forces. It would take too long, even if we wanted to prepare to intercept an attack. As such, I have to negotiate with Char…”
“Isn’t that Newtype Amuro Ray in Londo Bell?” Quess interrupted the conversation between the couple.
“Newtype? That ‘human evolution’ garbage? That only exists in comics!”
“After seeing you, I would think so!”
“What are you trying to say?!”
“Stop arguing!” Adenauer told them.
“Commanding Officer, we are about to depart. Please take your seat,” said a crew member popping in from the cockpit.
“Ah, please go ahead! For God’s sake, please sit down…” Adenauer begged his wife, and dragged her to the front row.
“… It is weird sitting in this kind of civilian craft! Why can’t we use the military’s larger shuttles?”
“Didn’t I say that the military has begun to mobilize? It’s safer to take a space shuttle from Hong Kong.”
“Why aren’t there any operations planned to stop Char from freezing Earth?” Quess whined behind her father.
“Because the Earth Federation Forces did not believe at all that Char was still alive!” Adenauer replied in a sorrowful tone after settling his wife down.
“There are billions of people living in space, Papa, and you all thought that by looking up from earth, you could understand them? It is too late to go to space to understand them after the situation has become this bad!”
“… Who would have expected that he could actually form up an army on his own?” Adenauer’s head sunk into the headrest of his seat as the Oriental Express took off steadily.
The Express would take them to Hong Kong in less then an hour.
Even as the Express was making adjustment to its altitude, high above them the Ra Cailum’s fleet was moving towards the space around 5th Luna to engage Char’s forces.
In a stable point in orbit on the night-side of Earth, sparks of light radiated from the center of an asteroid. After the light stopped, the thrusters of MS Teams produced long tails as they converged on the object from nearby space. As these tails entangled together, the MS began their melee.
The bulky MS facing away from 5th Luna were the Geara Dogas launched from the 5 cruisers Char Aznable was commanding.
The Jegan MS Team launched from the Ra Cailum, and their support vessels tried to evade the shots fired by the Geara Dogas while approaching 5th Luna.
“The target is 5th Luna! Don’t focus on anything else!” This was the common objective of the Ra Cailum’s MS Pilots.
“But…!” Before he could reply, the pilot’s Jegan was destroyed by a Geara Doga behind him.
It was obvious from their methods of attack that the Geara Doga pilots were specially trained. The Earth Federation Forces MS Pilots, which were seemingly forming a straight line, lacked battle tempo and appeared to have been stopped easily.
“Captain Amuro!” As if they were responding to this cry, three Jegans formed a straight line and flew past the destroyed Jegan. “It’s 5th Luna!”
The commander of the 3 Jegans, Lieutenant Kayla Su, headed toward the meteor that was in the shadow of Earth.
However, 5th Luna, which was gradually growing closer, suddenly bust into a dazzling display of light. The four nuclear-powered thrusters of the asteroid had started firing.
“They’ve fired!” Kayla was frightened by the intensive light. 5th Luna was starting to drop toward Earth.
The Jegan Team was to stop the Neo Zeon’s Rewloola fleet and the meteor drop at all costs. If they failed, the Earth’s climate could turn destructively cold.
In addition, it was already known that 5th Luna was heading toward the headquarters of the Earth Federation Forces in Lhasa, Tibet. Char had declared as much when he took over Sweet Water. However, the Earth Federation did not believe he could do any such thing and had been slow even in sending out the Londo Bell force. “How can the private army of one man have the strength to destroy Lhasa?!” They had never thought he would drop an asteroid. Even Amuro and the other members of Londo Bell were skeptical.
“If the Earth Federation does not recognize the sovereignty of Sweet Water, we will directly attack Lhasa!”
They were confident that Char’s declaration was referring to a Mobile Suit invasion or a nuclear strike. Only when Char sent out a third of his fleet to 5th Luna did Londo Bell realize this plan could be carried out with a small force. 5th Luna did not have any troops residing in it because it was actually a small asteroid brought back from the asteroid belt. It was originally used to collect the materials needed to develop the space colonies. Char took an interest in it because it had nuclear thrusters, which allowed the (roughly) ten-kilometer asteroid to move.
An intense beam of light appeared and surrounded Kayla and the other two Jegans. It was the exhaust from the nuclear thrusters.
“Captain Amuro, the enemy has begun to drop 5th Luna onto Earth, and we failed to prevent it!” Kayla screamed as evaded a beam attack. The two other machines were hit and suffered heavy damage.
The flash of light generated by the nuclear-powered thrusters outlined the Ra Clop-class space cruisers, making them look like three red triangles.
“5th Luna’s angle of descent is okay! Speed, okay!”
“Testing speed reduction using nuclear explosions!”
“Okay! Speed is minus 23, affirmative!”
The left side of the Rewloola’s narrow combat bridge became 5th Luna’s control center. We might think from the conversation that dropping a meteor on Earth is very easy, but it was actually very difficult to maintain a constant speed to prevent friction from incinerating the asteroid upon its entry. It is even harder to drop it at a specific point. However, the operation seemed to be going smoothly.
Mesuta Mesua, sitting in the seat to the right side of the captain, confirmed the control operations of 5th Luna, pressed the right arm rest, and shouted: “Colonel Char!” Her luscious lips and full cheeks gave her a gentle and feminine charm even though her face was elongated and slender.
“…What?”
The small monitor on the right of Mesuta showed the Rewloola’s MS deck. Mesuta adjusted the image of the monitor towards a red MS and enlarged it.
The Suit’s unique appearance made it look intimidating. A yellow normal suit floated toward the cockpit located in the head of the MS. As it glided into the cockpit, Mesuta’s monitor displayed the image of a Caucasian wearing a yellow helmet.
“Glab Gas is still stuck in combat at the moment. I think there is a need to provide him with assistance.” Mesuta took a quick glace at the three-dimensional panoramic monitor that was between the captain and her. Using 5th Luna as the center, friendly and enemy vessels, along with major MS movements, were display by the computer graphics on it.
“Will it allow them to breach our line?”
“Londo Bell is stationing its Mobile Suit forces in front of 5th Luna.”
“Have the remaining preparations to drop 5th Luna been completed? If so, give the order to retreat.” Char, whose image was being shown on the monitor, seemed to be thinking about more important things and did not look back at Mesuta.
“I know it’s already an issue, but we can’t scatter any more Minovsky Particles to cover the retreat of the MS Teams.”
“I know… This is also the first time the Nightingale will enter combat. I’m a bit worried I will be unfamiliar with it…”
“I understand. Let’s re-activate Kaparas’ team then, although their casualty rate has reached 20% and they’re on the way back to the ship. We can establish wireless communication with them.”
“No, I want to use this chance to familiarize myself with the Nightingale. I will go provide cover and bring back Glab’s Psycho Doga. Nightingale, launching!”
That red frame glided up toward one of the Rewloola’s linear catapult launching decks. The indicators in front of the machine changed to reflect “GO.” The power cable that was restraining the Nightingale detached after a series of vibrations, leaving the majestic frame of the Nightingale floating above the linear catapult. It was impossible for the Suit to use the catapult because its limbs were too big. The six thrusters gave off bright streaks of light, propelling the heavy machine forward. A moment later, the Nightingale rushed straight in front of the Rewoola toward the light emitted by the nuclear-driven engines of 5th Luna.
The launch sequence of the Nightingale could be seen from the combat bridge. Mesuta saw it: “… Glab, that brat. He should have been strengthened by it, right? What is wrong with him?!”
Glab Gas was Mesuta’s only artificial Newtype pilot. He was obsessed with winning, which was a problem with artificial Newtypes, but he was also the only one that could use a psycommu system (a device that strengthens brain waves) to control funnels. Originally he was determined to be the pilot with the greatest combat potential, but he had not done anything outstanding since the operation began. He was now cut-off in the space in front of 5th Luna. Mesuta, who had devoted herself fully to helping Char, was cursing at his ineptitude.
Mesuta lifted up the visor of her normal suit: “Coordinate the retreat of the MS Teams and launch the remaining MS Teams from the escort fleet!”
“Launch the escort squads!”
The last three Geara Dogas onboard the Rewloola left the ship. They were followed later by a few other Geara Dogas from the accompanying ships.
“Londo Bell’s fleet should start to chase after the falling 5th Luna. I guess the only thing to worry about now is the possibility of laser attacks from the SIDE-2 colonies.”
“Right. Can we distract them?” Captain Ryle finally lifted his visor up and looked into Mesuta’s eyes.
“We probably can, but there’s something strange…” Mesuta activated one of the monitors located on the ceiling. Several numbers were displayed on a summarized map that contained the location of the various colonies, 5th Luna and Earth, along with a rough estimation of where SIDE-2 would shoot from. “SIDE-2 could have attacked at any time in the last thirty minutes…” Her expression became gloomy.
“Neo Zeon spies have infiltrated SIDE-2’s ranks. They can suppress any laser attacks… Ah!”
Mesuta pointed her laser pointer toward the officer that made the remark, shutting him up.
“Captain…?”
“Don’t rely on such unforeseen things! Quickly prepare the MS Teams to form a defensive line!”
“Aaa… Yes!”
Char’s Nightingale replaced the troops that were retreating, and was closing in on 5th Luna.
“Is it here?”
The Nightingale accelerated, and in one swift motion maneuvered directly in front of 5th Luna.
“Is it there?”
The monitor directly in front of Char showed the flashes of explosions as he approached.
Inside the narrow equator of 5th Luna, the Re-GZ piloted by Amuro was defending against another MS. Part of the back weapon system was damaged and had burnt off. Even the Suit’s main weapon, a mega particle cannon, was exhausted. Considering his current condition, he was unable to move.
“Not only have I failed to stop 5th Luna from being dropped, I can’t even defeat this Suit!”
Amuro saw the shadow of the enemy for a 3rd time. That one was different from that of the other enemy MS, because it could use remote-controlled weaponry. It could thus be considered a more dangerous MS. However, Amuro himself was a pilot with Newtype abilities. He was agitated about his failure to make a breakthrough and already knew how inferior the abilities of his MS were.
He turned the suit around, discarded the back weapon system and descended to the surface of 5th Luna with only the main frame of the Re-GZ. The enemy MS, using this brief opportunity, fired lasers and continued its attack. Evading this attack was something only Amuro could do. However, the strength of the enemy pilot had already lured Amuro into this situation.
There was no need for Mesuta to be cursing at him.
However, the enemy had used up his funnels and other accompanying weapons. This was Amuro’s only hope. The Re-GZ could only fly in straight lines, and it had been tough to hold out against his enemy for so long. As it was now, he had only a few means of counterattacking at his disposal.
“Huh?”
Amuro’s machine was bouncing along the surface of 5th Luna. He quickly re-stabilized it and continued his own attack on the enemy that was hiding among some debris in front of him. The reflected light from Earth brightened the surface of 5th Luna.
“He’s out of funnels… Let’s do this,” Amuro said decisively. While taking out the beam saber from the waist compartment of his MS, he simultaneously activated all the energy caps from the beam rifle that was grasped in his right hand. Even if the beam rifle left the mechanical hand of the Re-GZ, it would still fire constantly for a second or so before stopping, although the beam rifle would jump backwards due to the recoil produced when the beam was fired. Amuro lowered the frame of the RE-GZ and charged straight ahead. The MS giving off enemy signals flew out of the debris and was momentarily distracted by the attack of the beam rifle. Using this opportunity, the Re-GZ attacked with its beam saber.
”Bang!”
The left leg of the enemy MS was sliced of. Amuro withdrew the blade and sliced off the thrusters on the back as well.
”Chiang!”
It was not enough to cause a fatal blow; it only slowed down the enemy’s attack. Even so, the damage reduced the power of the beam rifle in the enemy’s hand by half.
“… What?” Glab Gas, who was piloting this MS, was astounded.
“The end is near!” Amuro adjusted the frame of the Re-GZ, intending to make a final strike with his beam saber. At the same time, a circular pillar of lasers surrounded the two MS. The two suits disappeared in the smoke produced after the ensuing explosions. The Re-GZ managed to evade the blasts and immediately retreated. “What?” He felt that the enemy’s support had tremendous power. Using the monitor, he was able to capture the enemy’s image.
“…?”
The red frame of the Nightingale, piloted by Char, was illuminated by the Earth shining behind it.
“That brat Glab, didn’t Mesuta take care of him?!” Char started cursing after seeing the miserable state that Glab’s Psycho Doga had been reduced to on his large monitor. It was because of Glab’s poor form.
“Arr? Is it Char?” Amuro felt a strong psychological oppression upon seeing the red MS, and new it was definitely Char. The memory of that feeling was carved deep in Amuro’s mind, and would never be forgotten. He released several dummies to cover his retreat. “Even now, you still like to do things yourself!”
Ever since Char took over Sweet Water, he had claimed to be its supreme commander. Amuro did not expect that he would take a MS out. If it was him, Char had become self-indulgent, Amuro concluded. It occurred to him, though, that Char piloting a Mobile Suit was not a totally bad thing.
Even though they were once comrades-in-arms, Char had become the same enemy that had once given him that feeling of pressure. The Re-GZ was not sufficient to make a stand against him.
Amuro retreated.
However, Glab’s Psycho Doga actually flew up and chased after the retreating Re-GZ, ramming against one of its dummies. The bomb installed within it exploded and the Psycho Doga was hurled away, losing a leg in the process. It was now crippled on 5th Luna.
“Shit!” Glab’s machine its knees against the ground; he was starting to panic.
The dummies were basically a kind of balloon. The surface was covered by a material that could reflect electronic waves, and thus couldn’t be told apart from the real MS using radar. Inside the dummy was a small propulsion device, allowing it to fly in an irregular fashion and mimic a Mobile Suit to confuse the enemy’s vision. Several reusable dummies are installed in each MS.
Glab looked at the amount of energy left in his beam rifle via an indicator and confirmed that he had to wait several more seconds. The monitor in front was luckily undamaged, but he was annoyed by the image shining above him.
Char’s Nightingale was confronting the enemy’s Earth Federation MS. Earth, which was behind them was gradually growing larger.
“That Earth Federation MS really resembles the Gundam…. Does that mean the pilot I engaged, is either a Newtype or an Artificial Newtype…? Even though Glab knew that he was not fighting against an ordinary pilot, he felt a wave of resentment. He was enchanted by Mesuta, but hadn’t performed well for her in battle. He suspected that the degree of enhancement given to him by the Neo Zeon Newtype Research Laboratory was insufficient. “I can sense the presence of the enemy, but it’s useless if I can’t achieve anything.” This kind of thinking reflected the pride and arrogance of the youthful Glab.
“Huh? The Minovsky particles have gradually worn out?” Glab tuned up the volume of the ear piece in his helmet and noticed some noise.
“…Why must you throw such things onto Earth!? Doing so will result in Earth freezing, making it inhabitable!”
“That is my intention. This is to purge people from the Earth! I have already proclaimed that!”
Following the voice, Nightingale’s red frame charged towards the enemy MS.
“Ah……?”
A short while later, the two MS shifted to another part of 5th Luna and Glab could not see them. He tried to accelerate quickly, but the Psycho Doga only had half of its power left and could only slowly glide along the surface of 5th Luna.
“…Mankind can correct itself accordingly!”
“I, Char Aznable shall be the one doing the correcting, Amuro!”
Glab could tell that Colonel Char’s voice was full of confidence. At the same time, though, Glab realized that the Colonel was not using his funnels, and was puzzled by it. The monitor in front of Glab caught a glimpse of the two MS, which were locked in serious combat and using their beam sabers. The interference waves resulting from the clash of the weapons enveloped them, causing the two machines to look melted.
“… A single person doesn’t have the right to change mankind!”
“Humanity does not have the right to pollute and destroy Earth! That is why I must begin to change it!”
“You’re too full of yourself!”
“You obviously know that the Earth can’t last if thiscontinues; why are you saying that?! Humans should pay the price for polluting the Earth for so long!”
As the Nightingale swung its beam saber forward, the enemy MS automatically evaded. The Nightingale continued slashing.
“Hmm…?” Glab was astounded, because the enemy MS actually dodged the fierce attacks the Nightingale was carrying out with its beam saber.
“Ha! Your MS is no match for me. This is only my Nightingale’s first battle!” Char’s jeering mysteriously knotted in Glab’s ear.
“Telling the Colonel’s ideals to the Earth Federation Forces is useless: they won’t understand! We have long passed the time to move off!” Glab could not refrain from shouting. The Psycho Doga flew up and fired its beam rifle. Glab screamed savagely, giving people the impression that the Psycho Doga’s action was slow.
Even though Char’s Nightingale is in front, the Re-GZ still tried to attack Glab with its beam saber.
Glab viewed this attack as supernatural.
“Waaah…!” Glab felt the flash of the beam passing by in front of him as the particles cut into the frame. He was forced to lay the machine flat against 5th Luna’s surface.
He could not move at all.
“Glab!” By the time Char’s voice landed in his ear, the Nightingale had already landed next to the Psycho Doga and extended its mechanical arm. The enemy MS seemed to have retreated.
“Colonel! Please chase after the enemy! Don’t worry about me.”
“Your Psycho Doga cannot retreat now! Calm down!”
“Huh? It’s- it’s okay!”
“No, I can tell from the way it looks! Don’t rely on the computer’s read-outs!” The Nightingale’s mechanical hand knocked against the Psycho Doga’s cockpit. Glab had no choice but to open the door and pop into space with his normal suit.
“I did not rely on the computer, Colonel!”
“Don’t say anything else!”
The Nightingale’s mechanical hand grabbed hold of Glab’s normal suit, and Char recklessly took the Nightingale off into space.
The frame of the Psycho Doga, with both its legs missing, was lying against the surface of 5th Luna. Glab looked at the scene, lifted his head to look at the Nightingale’s head, and reflected that his condition appeared strange. The bright mono eye had dimmed, and no longer exuded ferocity.
Amuro was shocked at the speed which the red MS retreated, but he understood that Char was acting according to plan. He moved the heavily damaged Re-GZ out off the shadows.
The bright light of Earth was reflecting off the frame…

^^ Ciao! Priest Guntank. Tolta che faceva ribrezzo...

Bright Noa was somewhat uncomfortable, most likely due to the unpleasant nature of the day’s passengers. There was not a soldier at Jaburo who would not understand if that group known as the “Titans” were mentioned. The Titans were famous for being superficially polite, and quickly becoming a synonym for snobbish at Jaburo.
“Wanna shake them up, Captain?” Macmillan Hathan, the co-captain, had asked Bright the moment he sat in the captains’ chair.
Bright understood that this was probably the only opportunity he would have to get some sort of revenge against the Titans, but instead of replying with words, he forced a smile. Macmillan understood exactly what Bright was thinking with just this simple gesture, proving himself as embodying the true meaning of the word “staff.”
Bright sat down in the captain’s chair, fastening his helmet. In front of him, he could see that black sky he had seen so many times before, with the ocean horizon lightly twinkling in the dawn-light. Right above that thin horizon line there lay a thin, shimmering layer of haze, below which tiny clots of symmetrical clouds drifted above the nighttime ocean, flowing slowly past.
However, Bright and Macmillan had a mountain’s worth of checks to perform before lift-off, leaving no time to be entranced by the scenery that they both knew so well. Macmillan counted off the checklist items one by one, and Bright repeated each after him. Even while they were doing so, the control center of the mother-ship, the Garuda, was communicating more than a dozen items of separate checks to the Module JV8 that Bright commanded, known more commonly as the Temptation. While the two carried out all these checks, Bright addressed Macmillan.
“That girl named Ema Sheen? She’s not so bad.” Bright named of one of the members of the Titans.
“Ema…? You think so…?” Macmillan, who was crouched over the control panel, thought about Bright’s statement for a while, then stated, “… You just think so, Captain, ‘cause she’s got some Oriental blood in her, just like your wife.”
Bright was surprised by this statement, and looked at Macmillan to see what he meant, finally remembering that the topic of discussion was Ema Sheen, as so much time had passed.
“You think so?” Bright answered, just as the hatch at the back of the flight deck opened, and Anne Barbara, the Mission Specialist, stuck her head in.
“Shall we let the passengers board?”
“Oh, you’re flying with us today? Thanks for coming out,” Bright stated. “ How are you?”
“Oh, I’m great! How are your children, Captain?”
“They’re just fine. They’re doing a little too well in pre-school, though. It’s causing us a whole lot of grief.”
“You’ve got to let them play outside sometimes, Captain! I’ll bet you’ve got them all cooped up inside the house, right?”
”What? My kid is a champion at canoeing, you know…”
“Anne, the bridge is no place for a kindergarten teacher. Please save the childcare talk for later.” The announcer at the Garuda’s control center interrupted their small talk.
“Roger,” said Anne.
In this respect, the Garuda’s company was a bit rough. They didn’t hold any flight meetings with the crew. Upon boarding the ship, life was like a constant stream of scheduled events over which the crew had no control.
“Anne, the engine isn’t working too well today. Take-off might be a bit rough, but don’t you worry about it,” said Bright, shooting Anne a wink.
“Huh? Will we be OK?”
“He’s just sayin’ because we’re flying the Titans today!”
“Ahh…” Anne forced a small laugh, then continued “My stomach’s kind of off today. Can you please take it a little easy?”
“Gotcha!” Macmillan shot up his thumb, flashed white teeth back at Anne.
“See you later, then!” Anne Barbara’s blonde head disappeared out the hatch. Bright turned on the monitor to view the passenger seats. On the screen he could see Anne, who had just left the cockpit, disappear towards the boarding hatch.
“15 minutes until departure!”
“15 minutes!” Bright called back. On the right-hand monitor, Bright and Macmillan could see the cargo being loaded onto the plane below.
“They’re here,” muttered Bright.
“Ah…” sighed Macmillan, without much interest. Reflecting on this, he then said, “I don’t like her that much.” He was talking about Ema Sheen again.
“You’re picky, aren’t you,” Bright laughed, and watched the very same Ema Sheen they had just been talking about sit down in a seat on the right-hand center of the ship. It must have been the dark lighting inside the ship, but for some reason Ema Sheen’s ash brown hair looked beautiful. But, her overly confident, proud personality was rather off-putting, after all.
“5 minutes until takeoff!” There was no longer any time to be absorbed in what was going on in the passenger seats. Far off in his headphones, Bright could hear a voice making an announcement. “All personnel, prepare for module launch!” It was the broadcast relaying the departure of the Temptation to the Garuda’s crew. No matter how huge of a ship the Garuda was, it would still likely somewhat shaken at the time of the Temptation’s launch. More importantly, however, it was because no one could guarantee that there would not be some sort of accident at the moment of the module’s liftoff.
“Passenger boarding is completed. Begin air check!”
“Roger. Air checking all systems. Final verification.” Bright pressed a computer key to perform the final checks.
“JV8, blast-off preparation!” came the voice from the control center.
“Roger.”
Just then, a thundering quake rocked the ship. The Garuda had unlatched one of the joints from which the Temptation was hanging. Through the front windshield of the ship, the dawn horizon cut the view into two separate worlds of ocean and sky. Looking up from the cockpit, Bright could see the front edge of the Garuda. The JV8 Temptation’s hyper cold fusion reactor was rapidly gearing up to reach critical energy for take-off. However, this was something that could only be seen on the analog displays of the control panel. There was no rumble of the engine shaking the ship to create any tension among the passengers.
Out the front glass lay the sky, the horizon, and that belt of mist separating the two. That symbol of atmospheric pollution…
Commander Bright Noah continued staring at that thin line of mist. “How long is it gonna take for that to fog disappear…?”
It had been seven years since that last great war between the Earth Federation government and the Principality of Zeon. In fact, it would soon be eight whole years since the war. Even so, the dust spread throughout the atmosphere had not fully disappeared. Massively destructive actions, such as dropping colonies on the earth, did not have the long-lasting damaging effect that atomic weaponry had, but it did not change the fact that it had caused immense atmospheric pollution. The only blessing in all this was that there was no radioactive pollution in the atmosphere.
In addition, those living in space, known widely as the “Spacenoids,” continued their activities to protect the earth as a singularly irreplaceable entity. However, the Earth Federation was making desperate efforts to rebuild their own facilities on Earth, all while disrupting the natural recovery of the planet. Before the start of the Universal Century, this would have been considered the only obvious plan for reconstruction. However, as it was an age where space colonies had finally been realized, and hundreds of millions of humans had gone to live in space, this plan to rebuild of Earth seemed like nothing more than an attempt to purposely drown the world in pollution.
Bright shared in the opinion of the Spacenoids, that all humans should move into space, and only interfere with the Earth insofar as to help it once again be able to naturally recover on its own. However, these pilots called the Titans that Bright was now flying were soldiers hired to root out the Spacenoids who made this claim as “rebellious elements.”
“It seems this job’s got me letting something troublesome loose into space…”
Bright closed his eyes.
“We’ve reached critical point!” At Macmillan’s exclamation, Bright switched the microphone to the passenger area and stated simply, “One minute to take-off.” Towards normal soldiers, Bright would have usually said something kinder, something more Captain-like, but he held himself back this time. As both soldiers and pilots, these Titans were a more elite group than Bright’s men. Bright didn’t want to say something better left unsaid and inadvertently earn the scorn of these men.
“30 seconds to ignition.” Bright left the countdown to Macmillan. The hyper cold fusion reactor engine had already begun burning quietly. They would at first use the full driving power of the engine, and once that power had reached its limit, a little bit of gunpowder would serve as an afterburner.
“’Seven, six, five…” The last joint holding the Temptation came loose, and the ship began its descent. Light g-forces created by the fall tugged on Bright’s body, as the Garuda’s wings disappeared from sight through the front windshield.
“Two, one!” The bright flash of the JV8 Temptation’s engines reflected lightly in the underside of the Garuda’s wings, stirring up a new whirlpool of light within the light of the dawn. Today’s acceleration was more violent than usual. The body of the craft shook roughly, but as the next flash had consumed the Temptation, the ship had split the light of the dawn in two.
“Ugh!” The passengers in their seats were groaning faintly. “What the…!?” There were a few passengers who complained in this manner, but the Titans did not raise their voices in protest. Even despite the relative bumpiness, this g-force was nothing compared to that of the average rocket launch prior to the start of the Universal Century.
The Temptation danced in the direct light of the sun, making a beeline in it’s ascent towards orbit. The ocean below was welcoming another day within the rays of the morning sun, shining gradually brighter. Though the Garuda was the biggest airplane yet created by human hands, it now appeared as a floating speck no larger a tiny sesame seed.
Upon Bright’s return to Jaburo, the Garuda would be given a temporary respite at the Federation base located deep within the heart of South America.
Part 2: Char in Granada Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Novel Series Volume 1: Kamille Bidan
"Is this true?" The young officer questioned him while typing on the keyboard, not even bothering to turn around. "Y, yes...!" "There's no mistake. After all, this is information from Lieutenant Hank of the 36th supply corps..." The sergeant, out of breath as he had come running, spoke while indicating the memo in his hand to the officer. “Lieutenant Hank…? He is a reliable man…” The blonde officer struck the last key on the keyboard, then stood and accepted the memo. His blue eyes were beautiful. “The Titans are in a hurry? New pilots are entering Green Oasis every day…?” “Sweetwater says they are at the limit of their patience.” “Is there a flight?” “We can do anything. This depends more on your preparation, Colonel.” “Stop calling me a colonel. I’m a captain.” The computer printer let out a light sound just once, and then printed. While this was happening, the blonde officer brushed away the hair on his forehead and picked up the sunglasses at the side of the keyboard. “But the Commodore is asking that you come to Sweetwater as quickly as you possibly can… If you are not there, Colonel Char, the Mobile Suits will not move out.” “I told you to stop calling me colonel.” The blonde officer took the printed paper in hand. This very man had formerly been Char Aznable, nicknamed Char the Red Comet within the Principaity of Zeon. “Kignan.” “Yes, Captain Quattro Bageena.” Verifying that Kignan had regained the composure to answer normally, Char placed his own paperwork in the file, and spoke. “Let’s go. Contact Abu Dabia for me. Tell him I’m going to Sweetwater…” “Yes, but what shall we put on the written report?” “Telling them that I’m supervising repairs on the Mezoba should be enough. You can convince them with that, can’t you?” Without bothering to reply to Kignan’s question, Char left the room. “We’re counting on you, Colonel Char.” Excitedly clapping his rough hands together, Sergeant Kignan turned off the light and left the room. Char had finally decided to carry out the plan that he had considered for so long. “I’ve waited seven whole years. I can’t expect that everything will go the way I had hoped, but it’s better than living like a widow…” Char Aznable’s mood had lightened. Without thinking, he kicked the floor, and flew. Char’s body glided, tracing a slight arch for a distance of more than six meters. On the moon, where the pull of gravity was only a sixth of that on Earth, this would happen. So if you mistook the direction when jumping, you ran the chance of bumping your head on the ceiling. This was Granada, the Earth Federation city on the far side of the moon. It had formerly been the frontline base for the Principality of Zeon. Civilian facilities had advanced to the area around the base, urbanizing it. However, local business had not advanced to the level estimated before the war, and the population was still not even two hundred thousand. But it now functioned as a frontline base for the Earth Federation, and Char, who was stationed there, was a regular soldier in the Federation Army. As Sergeant Kignan Ramza had just said, Char’s current name was Captain Quattro Bageena. But this name was only a false one, used so that Char could infiltrate the Earth Federation Army. Char Aznable was still entirely Char Aznable. If another name for Char were to exist, it would have been his real name, Casval Rem Deikun. The name Char was itself an alias. Char used an alias because he hated the idea of carrying on the name of his father, Zeon Daikun. At the same time, he had needed to hide his identity in order to infiltrate the Principality of Zeon, which had used his father’s name.
During the Common Era, the increase in human population wore out the earth. Nature was destroyed, and the filth of civilization crushed the world. As a countermeasure to this problem, mankind constructed the space colonies, solving the increase in population and food supply issue. But as time went on, people of the privileged classes began to refuse to migrate to the space colonies. The Earth’s population once again returned to numbers rivaling those of the first half of the 20th century, and the Earth showed signs of restoring the balance of nature, making it easier to live on. But by the time this age arrived, movement against idea of the Earth, that singular planet of water, being used by a particular group of privileged people, arose among those living in space. And standing at the head of those making this claim was Char’s Father, Zeon Deikun. He claimed that in order to keep from polluting the Earth, all humans should migrate to the space colonies. At the same time he demanded independence for the people living in the colonies. This claim aroused sympathy from the spacenoids (the residents of the space colonies,) but the person who took advantage of this sympathy to establish a dictatorship was Degin Sodo Zabi. Degin assassinated Zeon Deikun, and using his name, established the Principality of Zeon, setting its base on the Side 3 colony group located on the far side of the moon. Of course, the Earth Federation did not approve of this action, and there was every indication that a war could break out. Taking preemptive control, the Principality of Zeon pumped poisonous gas into colonies on the Earth Federation side, killing five billion people, continuing on to drop several of those colonies on the main cities of Earth, and plunging into the “One Year War.” Char had entered the Principality of Zeon before this happened, becoming an officer in the Zeon army, and was looking for a chance to approach Degin to carry out his father’s revenge. However, Char sympathized with the theory of independence for the spacenoids, who made up the main base the Principality of Zeon’s support. These principles caused Char to continue serving as an officer in the Zeon army until the end of the war. Char even took part in the final all-out battle of the Zeon army, fighting against the Earth Federation pilot well-known as a newtype, Amuro Rei, and his Gundam. But during that battle, the newtype Char loved, Lalah Sune, ran into Amuro Rei, and was destroyed. A mutual understanding as newtypes had created sympathy between Lalah and Amuro that surpassed any idea of enemy or friend, which Char hated. Char understood that this hatred of his had ended up killing Lalah. But this also left deep scars in Char. Even so, Char would have likely been able to forgive this if the enemy pilot, Amuro Rei had even been a real newtype. But he only exercised his newtype abilities within that small territory defined by his own friends, refusing to become anything more than an enemy to Char. To Char, it seemed that nothing more there than a narrow love existed there. And then Char came to the conclusion that Amuro Rei was nothing more than a war machine being used by the Earth Federation, which caused him great despair. It was his hatred that had probably caused Char to avoid bringing matters with Amuro Rei to a close, but there were other reasons as well. Deep inside, Char hated that the country prefixed with his father’s name would fall into ruin. Mineva Zabi, who had the blood of the Principality of Zeon’s Zabi Family, and her attendants, along with Char’s friend Margarethe Ring Blair and others, had escaped Zeon’s final space fortress, A Baoa Qu, right after its fall, and were now hiding in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. But for them to die out while living on the run was not Char really wanted. Whether they made a return to power or not, Char’s nature would not allow them to live without knowing the situation in Earth territory. Char acquired an enlistment in the Earth Federation Army, and returned to Earth territory. Getting the Earth Federation Army position had been easy. As the One Year War had caused massive losses to both the colonies and to Earth, enlistment registries had disappeared from all over. Because of this fact, applications to return to enlistment were easily accepted on behalf of the residents of fully destroyed colonies and soldiers from platoons that were rumored to have been completely wiped out and such. The loss of basic officer academy data made it impossible to trace or investigate the past history of any single soldier, and the declaration of the individual became the only proof. Of course, soldiers for which there was clear proof of participation in the Zeon Army would be punished as war criminals. But when it came down to it, investigations were easily avoided as former Zeon soldiers had made their way into every department of the Earth Federation. In the case of these sorts of investigations, data would be tacitly fabricated, and then balanced with other existing data. It was not done through consultation or conspiracy. It was just common wisdom in the lives of the masses. Nothing more than something learned from the European precepts for living from the age when nations bordered closely on one another. Because of this, the business of data fabrication by proxy was flourishing. Char had almost the entire crew of a Mazeran-type battleship that had gone down at A Baoa Qu reregistered by one of these representatives. This was nothing out of the ordinary. Going down in space did not mean that the battleship was sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Partially destroyed battleships would gain momentum from the explosions and float off in strange directions, and there were examples of these ships returning to Earth territory months later due to the efforts of the surviving soldiers. People would say that this was how they had survived. The indifference of high-ranking Earth Federation officers to the spacenoids became a reason behind the ease with which they reregistered so easily. This was because the high-ranking officers of the Earth Federation were desperately working to return Earth to the way it had been prior to the Universal Century. Because of this, discrimination towards those formerly in Zeon rarely appeared. The only sense of discrimination was based on whether one was a spacenoid or an Earth resident, and it was this very sense that was gradually creating the next problem. Chaos ruled the Earth territories of the Federation. It was exactly because Char had insight into this that he had decided to live as an Earth Federation soldier. Then, when he knew that the difference in consciousness between spacenoids and Earth residents was becoming increasingly certain, he decided that he could not sit idly by and watch; that he need to prepare. His decision became concrete on the third year after the war had ended. This was the start of his contact with Commodore Brex Forra and the other members of the anti-Earth Federation faction. During the almost four years after that, concrete anti-Earth Federation parties had begun movements among the Federation’s space army. This definite movement was being made by the organization AEUG, whose name was an acronym for “Anti Earth United Government.” The colonies known as Side 1 and Side 2 became bases for AEUG, definitely increasing the group’s influence among the spacenoids, and increasing supporters even among the soldiers of the Earth Federation Army. It was two years ago that the Earth Federation, in trying to defer this movement, made use of a particularly brutal method. They used the same poisonous gas attack that Zeon had once formerly used against a colony. It was used against Side 1’s 30th colony, which had been the stage for large-scale AEUG meetings, killing fifteen million spacenoids in one single attack. Colonies are completely sealed. This attack plan was perfect. With this action, AEUG’s presence became further defined, and at various places in the colonies and on the moon, small fights continued to break out. However, this was the Earth Federation’s plan. They had wanted to flush out the corruption all at once, and annihilate the anti-Earth Federation movement. In order to do that, the Earth Federation army took advantage of part of the movement, organizing a special corps known as the Titans, and constructing a base in the former Side 7, which was now known as Green Oasis.
At the city of Granada on the surface of the moon, there was a mass driver facility used for the purpose of sending out materials. Speaking simply, it was a facility where the linear motor drive-style containers for distributing mineral resources and the rails were matched together. The facility was used to distribute mineral resources necessary in building colonies, but they were also usable to send out modules heading for the colonies. Now, the hatch which connected to the Granada underground opened, and a module appeared, riding on the rails of the mass driver. It was small. The modules used for contact purposes between the various colonies and the moon did not use a massive amount of thrust, as the moon had only a sixth of the gravity of the earth, and half of the necessary thrust used could be gained from the mass driver. This module, the “Tobu,” took off, gently at first, using the thrust of the normal rockets, then along with the thrust of the mass driver, it shook off the gravity of the moon. By riding on a balanced path between the Earth and moon orbit, the Tobu headed along an efficient course towards Sweetwater, the colony at Lagrange Point Two (a gravitationally balanced point.) Char rode in one of the small passenger cabins. “Tobu, huh? What a strange name…” Char called up the disc containing information about the ship on the monitor in front of his passenger seat. Char was not attempting to do anything productive during the voyage. When he reached his destination, he would be busy whether he wanted to be or not. Until then, he would allow his nerves time to rest. There was nothing to do but sleep or drink his favorite brandy. Then, if there was a stewardess that he hit it off with, he could have a little chat with her, cut it off at an appropriate time and then plan on going to sleep. As the flight this time was completely allocated to the army, there were no girls working onboard. He had no choice but to pour the brandy himself at the service counter, but this was better than wasting time talking to a girl that he didn’t care for. “Tobu comes from the Japanese word meaning flight, huh…?” Now that he knew the origin of the word “Tobu” was Japanese, Char was satisfied. It was another language that he did not understand, like Chinese, or the language of the Eskimos. From the ship’s window, he could see the full figure of the earth, but it passed out of sight behind the ship rather quickly. It was in quiet times that unexpected ideas would come to Char, which is exactly why he liked times like these. Char watched the army employees around him taking out their personal computers to do their desk work, and wondered why they made a point of showing themselves as being busy. This was particularly the case of the three women among the passengers, who must have been truly diligent secretaries. Without paying any mind to the surroundings, they started typing away at their own keyboards. Just the sound of hands tapping the keyboards was rather obnoxious. “I’m amazed they can do that without even paying attention to the things moving around them…” The depth to which Char felt this could likely be blamed on the fact that he was still rather young. To cut off the noise around him, Char drew the curtain. The brandy had started to take effect on him, and he began to doze off. On his forehead, half-hidden by his blonde hair, was a scar. It was a war wound he had received honorably, but had faded greatly. The Tobu now entered into inertial navigation, taking off for Sweetwater, the destination that still remained out of sight. Darkness swallowed up the body of the ship right away, showing the passengers an all-too-silent view. This silence made one expect proximity to the gods, but the earthlight was too strong, making the space before them shine brightly.
Part 3: You're a Boy? Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Novel Series Volume 1: Kamille Bidan
“…!” Kamille Bidan, who had been watching the monitor, violently returned his coffee cup to the table. The coffee jumped, dirtying the table. “Kamille!” His mother Hilda’s voice came flying at him not even a second later. She was quick to catch things like this. “…!” His father, Franklin, did not say anything. But he did shoot a scolding glance at Kamille. “The rotation of the colony must be fast.” Saying just this, Kamille stood. While looking at the schedule for arrivals at the bay deck reflected on the monitor, he had found the name of a ship he liked on the list. At times like these, he would get so happy without even thinking that this sort of thing would happen. It was a bad habit of his. “No matter if the inertial gravity is strong or weak, if you can’t adjust your actions accordingly, you can’t call yourself a spacenoid, can you?!” Kamille could not hear these words of Hilda’s. But things were always like this. Nothing worth worrying about. But Kamille did not want to give his mother the impression that he ignored her words, so he purposefully threw in another discussion. He needed to make it appear as though he was taking part in the conversation, so he spoke while on his way out of the area around the table. “When are we going back to Earth?” “We don’t plan on going back. When our work in Green Oasis comes to a close, we’ll look for another colony and move there.” “…?!” Kamille unconsciously stopped at his father’s conclusive tone.
Sounds like you’ve been getting ready to say those words for a while, doesn’t it…?!
Speaking about the Earth had been Kamille’s greatest weapon in talking back to his parents. The moment he mentioned it, his parents would falter, and tell him to wait just a little longer. With that phrase, any lecture he had been getting up to that point would end. But today was different. This was the first time Kamille’s father, Franklin, had said anything so clear about refusing to return to Earth. Kamille did not really care whether they returned to Earth or not. He liked Earth for what it was, and did not hate the city of New Seat, located near Tokyo, where he had been born. Kamille’s natural curiosity let him enjoy colony life. Although subtracting the fact that Green Oasis had become a base for the Titans was a necessary condition for that… “Why?!” “I’ve made my decision. That’s all. You’re not a child anymore, are you? You can imagine my reasons.” His father tossed several sheets of newspaper into the disposal, and then stood. Kamille did not even look at him. “I’m going ahead. I won’t be able to make it home today either, with the preparations to welcome the Titans.” “I’ll probably end up the same way. The pressure is on for our work in Green Noa 2…but…is what you just said true?” “Should I not have said it? I’m pretty sure you were the one who said you wanted me to make my decision quickly…” “But…all of the sudden…?” “Even if I have made a decision, it doesn’t mean we have to move on it right away. We have to live here in Green Oasis until our work is completed. Nothing is going to change. This just means we’ll have to use some of our vacation time to search for the colony where we’ll spend the rest of our lives…” Turning his back on this conversation of his parents, Kamille went up to his room, making a memo in his notebook about the arrival time he had just seen for the Temptation. Finally, without leaving any words of parting behind, he left the house. As was his habit, he jogged towards school. About five minutes later, his father’s eleca (electric car) went racing by on the road to his left. “He’s in a hurry…” Kamille knew about the woman who was supposedly his father’s lover. It was some woman who worked somewhere completely unconnected to his father’s job. Rumors about them had passed along through Kamille’s high school at a frightening speed. It seemed that his mother did not know the truth, but at the same time, no one knew what his mother was always doing at Green Noa 2, either. Green Noa 2 was a closed-type colony, located next to Green Noa 1. Green Noa 1 was a normal cylinder-type colony that had become the departure point for the Side 7 colonies, and had been built for civilian housing. Military facilities had come in and shaped the city around them. On the other hand, Green Noa 2 was a closed-type colony that had been built hurriedly for the Titans from a collection of colonies formerly used by Zeon. Even military engineers working in Green Noa 1 could not go the Green Noa 2 if they did not have the clearance level that Kamille’s parents had. It was said that there was something remarkable behind the fortification of Green Noa 2, but not all the details were known in Green Noa 1, as might be expected. At the same time, it was common knowledge in Green Noa 1 that a battleship of considerable size was being built, and that in the future, the military facilities at Green Noa 1 would likely be moved over to Green Noa 2. The additional fact that Colonel Bask Om, the director of the Titans, liked to call Green Noa 2 by the code name “Gryps,” was also well known. But other than that, even Kamille hadn’t heard anything from his parents. Kamille’s mother, Hilda, specialized in materials engineering, and in the military was treated as a first lieutenant, while his father, Franklin, was a captain and a specialist in mobile suit engineering. The two had come up to Green Oasis in order to participate in development plans for a new Gundam. As his mother specialized in materials engineering, she quickly ended up going back and forth between Green Noa 1 and 2 often, and as his father had recently started mobile suit combat testing, he was in Green Noa 1 quite a bit. The difference in their professional capabilities rarely brought the two together. It had been two weeks since they had even been at the same table, as they had this morning. Kamille knew that his father, who complained when his mother was not around, was selfish. His mother was a woman too involved in her research. At parties of work friends and such, every last one of his mother’s coworkers praised her. As a child, he could feel pride at this. But at seventeen, he understood that adult women too serious and involved in their work could not be satisfying presences at all, either as women or as mothers. The school that Kamille went to was made up of a group of children of military families, especially those who were elite engineers. The level of sciences was high, and their training, too, was quite impressive. If you were an honor student there, you could rise straight into the elite course. But the classes at a school like that were nothing more than an annoyance to most of the students. That school is depressing and emotionally degenerating to young boys and girls is a fact that does not change in any era. So Kamille spent every class that was not connected to electronics and computers with his mind elsewhere. On the other hand, he had been able to pick up some special tricks. He showed off, his trick of sitting with his back up straight all day long, sometimes even falling sleeping that way, better than anyone else’s. This was a sign of Kamille’s rebellious spirit. He was silently making a declaration about idiotic teachers who did not know anything other than keeping their students seated all day long. But this created two misunderstandings. Among the teachers, this created the misunderstanding that Kamille’s graceful looks, which appeared neither male nor female, made him a model student. The additionally misunderstanding, that he was a “Girl of Stone,” who only made a show of listening to the words of the teachers, made him infamous among the other students. This was the exact opposite reputation that Kamille had planned on, but he didn’t care. Up until that point, he had gone around starting fights, showing an extreme amount of animosity directed towards the friends in his school year who joked that his was a girl’s name. But nothing good came of this. Kamille simply never ran out of fresh wounds. So the wisdom he gained at the border of his fifteenth year was the skill of ignoring the abuse of his friends. With this, Kamille grew up.
When class ended, Kamille dashed to his club meeting. He was in the karate club. “I’m out sick!” “Who’s sick?!” The vice-captain, Ranban Squarm, dressed in a karate uniform, glared at him. “Yes, I’m sick!” He spoke while quickly typing on the keyboard next to the dojo entrance. He was accessing the attendance sheet. “What did you say?!” By the time Ranban Squarm, in an attempt to punish Kamille with his iron fist, ran out into the middle of the dojo, Kamille was already dashing out through the exit. “Whoops!” A man dodged Kamille’s body. It was Mezune Mecks, who was one year Kamille’s senior and the captain of the karate club. He had great intuition. “Wait!” Mezune Mecks grabbed on to Kamille’s arm. “You’re taking off today?!” “I’m out sick!” Kamille shortly repeated himself. “Shut up!” One of Mezune’s hands flew through the air. His slap was quick. Kamille’s body flew five or six meters, falling onto the red dirt of the exercise grounds. This blow seemed to say that people without motivation should leave, rather than being punishment “I’ll be back soon!” “How is that sick?!” Hearing these jeers, Kamille started running. “Kamille!” Fa Yuiry’s voice, one that Kamille was so used to hearing, reached his ears. She always does this! Kamille hated being called directly by name. But Fa Yuiry would absolutely not change the way she addressed him. Kamille’s running speed was not slow by any means, but Fa Yuiry’s gait slid in next to his. The line from Fa’s ear to the nape for her neck was beautiful as she positioned herself diagonally in front of him. “What happened? Why did you get punched?!” “Because I’m cutting. Get away from me.” “Why?” “Because everyone will realize that I’m Kamille, right?!” “Everyone knows that. You’re the only one who doesn’t!” Kamille dashed down the stairs leading from the school grounds along the road, and continued towards the eleca parking lot. There were rentable eleca there. They did not necessarily collect there, though. There was a system in which several parking lots were connected by computer, and eleca would be automatically dispatched to the areas with the higher usage rates. The time was what it was. As students leaving school would use them, quite a few eleca had built up there. Inputting his card, he was able to get in right away. Even at the very worst, you still did not even need to wait fifteen minutes. But anyway you looked at it, eleca were vehicles for short distance usage. While Kamille pressed the eleca’s starter, Fa came dashing in. “Where are you going?” “…Get out!” “I see. You’re going to the port to see the ships again. I’ll go too.” “You’ve got homework, don’t you?” “Please go.” “Hey! You cutting?!” The passerby teasing them was a classmate. “…” Kamille ignored this and stepped on the gas. Dashing along the quiet road leading from the school ward to the residential area, he broke out of the forest. He did not speak to Fa Yuiry about anything. Kamille rode the eleca right to the linear car entrance. Even inside a colony, when traveling in long distances, like from one end to the other, linear cars were faster. The linear car ran along a rail on the outer wall of the colony. In short, they would end up going out into space. There was no air resistance, and on top of that, they could move with little power. Additionally, there was the refreshing feeling of being able to see space, which is why so many people used linear cars. “Am I really gonna make it?” Kamille waited impatiently for the linear car, pressing the call button repeatedly. “The car will arrive in thirty seconds.” Maria Karasa’s synthetic voice spoke in a fawning manner. She was an actress whose entire business was her voice. “Tch!” Kamille chewed his nails. “It’s nothing that serious, is it? Stop that. What an awful habit.” “If you don’t want to see it, you shouldn’t have come along.” It happened just as Kamille railed back at Fa Yuiry… Shhhuu! The triple layered hatch of the linear car opened. In the twenty seat car, there was only one old man sitting in the back. “Here’s my card! Hurry to the port.” “I shall shorten the countdown. We will depart now.” With a slight tremor, the linear car left the station. Through the sun visor in front of them, one section of the buildings in the port appeared to be standing still against the many stars. The stars passed by their left side at a violent speed. Next, the port block approached, and in the next moment, the linear car matched its speed to that of the port wall, sliding into the correct position to moor. The port block was not revolving. While this was for the convenience of the ships going in and out of port, it was also done so that a block of industrial facilities making use of the lack of gravity could be set up there. However this second ward (the base) of the Green Oasis colony was already being used entirely for military affairs. All of the normal factory blocks had already become military facilities, turning into mobile suit development areas or pilot training centers. The linear car ran against the revolving colony along the outer wall, matching itself to the speed of the block on the stopped side. Then, when the linear car and port block appeared to have stopped, it meant that at their feet the outer wall of the colony would seem to be moving behind them at ferocious speeds. At this point, the stars finally appeared to have halted. The linear car was sucked into the port block. Then, it really did come to a stop. Kamille dashed out of the hatch while looking at his watch. But they were in a gravity-free zone. Kamille, who had absentmindedly kicked against the floor, headed towards the ceiling in a straight line. Then, hitting against the ceiling, he descended again. “Please be careful. This is a gravity-free area. Please make use of your shoes.” The synthesized voice of a woman rang out obnoxiously. “Kamille!” Fa, conscious of the gaze of the old man who followed behind them, wanted to cover her eyes at Kamille’s disgraceful appearance. Kamille, grabbing on to the grip used for movement on the wall, finally regained his body’s balance. “…” Without answering Fa, Kamille moved towards a viewing platform from which the port could be seen using the lift grip on the wall. Lift grips are always attached to walls for people to move along. A person could move about easily just by grabbing on and pressing the acceleration button. The skill to move from wall to wall and corner to corner was easy to learn. Of course, when it came to places that would be equivalent to intersections, there were signals which kept people from bumping into each other, but in general, a system controlling each of the lift grips was thoroughly in place, and people using lift grips to move about did not bump into each other. “Just as I though.” Getting onto the observation platform, Kamille discovered that the Temptation, which had come up from Earth, had already come into port. “I didn’t make it…” Landing on the floor, Kamille turned his gaze to the monitor on the side. There, the name of the Temptation, the name of the captain, the number of passengers and other such information was displayed. Kamille noted the name of the captain, Bright Noa. He looked out the window of the observation platform. “It’s not like some unusual ship arrived or anything.” Fa pouted at Kamille’s rush. “That’s because you don’t know Captain Bright. He’s really skilled. Kind, too.” “You know him?” “I’ve gotten his signature before.” “He’s not a newtype, is he?” “He was the captain of the White Base. He’s got to be, right?” “No, he’s not…” Fa, realizing that Kamille was staring straight at a single point, swallowed her words. “…?” Fa realized that Kamille was watching the hatch of the Temptation open. “I’m going down there.” Kamille skillfully kicked the floor, and floated straight for a stand of lift grips. Fa followed after Kamille, acting as though he was too much for her to keep after. Three floors below them was the area connected to the hatch of the Temptation. The passageways to the quarantine and inspection blocks were already open. They were treated this way only in times of special cases where passengers who did not need to be inspected were heading through. It was just as Kamille stood at the entrance to that floor. One crew member of the Titans appeared through the exit. “Kamille!” “Shut up!” At this cry, the man from the Titans spoke. “That’s a boy…?” It was definitely not a loud voice at all. But Kamille certainly heard it. He knew what it meant, too. “…!” Even Kamille did not know what he himself was trying to do. But Kamille’s legs were clearly walking towards the man from the Titans. “…?” The man must have thought that the boy walking straight towards him might have been someone he knew. He turned his body towards Kamille. “…?” Kamille stopped to stand before the man. Several members of the Titans crew closed in from behind the man. Ema Sheen, too, was among them. “Lieutenant Jerid, which hatch do you think the luggage will come from?” The Lieutenant tried to turn in the direction of the voice. “Is there something wrong with me being a boy…?!” The Lieutenant looked down on Kamille at his confrontational words. “And you are…?” This man, Jerid Messa, one of the chosen among the Titans, furrowed his long, thick brow, then turned lightly aside to the friends on either side of him, making a show of laughing bitterly. “Is there something wrong with it?!” “Nah, you’re such a pretty young boy, after all…” “Don’t screw with me!” Before his words even ended, Kamille had thrown his body into Jerid Messa’s. Continuing on, Kamille’s right hand smashed into Lieutenant Jerid’s chin. This sort of forced karate did not know how to hold back. “Aah!” At Fa’s scream, the Titans crew were set into motion, and in the next second, several of the Titans crew members had jumped at Kamille. The men and women behind Jerid, as he floated off into the air after having been punched, were also chosen Titans pilots. They had learned martial arts, too. More than anything, it was many against one for Kamille. In just a brief moment, Kamille was being pressed against the floor. “Cut it out!” “It’s a rioter! He assaulted us, while fully knowing that we were Titans!” Airport employees and the military police guards came swarming down on them. Jerid Messa, who had had his jaw punched, groaned and fixed his posture, then landed so his shoes were within Kamille’s field of vision. Then, he looked down on Kamille. “As I just got off here to pick up my friends, and this happened…I’d like an apology…” Lieutenant Jerid’s eyes flashed a particularly brutal shade while he rubbed his chin. Kamille looked up at the emotion in Jerid’s eyes, even while the hands of several people pushed him to the floor. “What…?!” It was because of the look in Jerid’s eyes that Kamille let out these rebellious words. “You brat! What are you talking about, your name?!” Jerid Messa was an adult, after all. Holding back, Jerid kicked Kamille in the nose with the tip of his boot. In that moment, Kamille heard a sound as though the world had splattered open. The tip of Jerid’s boot dug in to Kamille’s nose, and he passed out, tears filling his eyes.

Sì, però vedi Debris, non siamo onnipotenti... i romanzi no dai!

Nanai is nowhere to be found. Instead, she is replaced with a character of a different name.
2. Same thing goes for Gyunei Guss.
3. In CCA, only the Sazabi and the Nu had the Psycoframe, right? In BC, there is a third Psycoframe-equipped MS, the Psyco Doga. It served as the precursor to the Alpha Azieru, and Char used it to pass the information of the Psycoframe to Amuro.
4.
In CCA, Chan kills Quess, then Hathaway kills Chan, right?
Not in BC. Instead, it is Hathaway who mistakenly kills Quess! This eventually leads to a sequel, Hathaway's Flash, where Hathaway becomes Mafty Erin, a terrorist who fights against the Federation.
In the Char's Counterattack novel, the psyco frame is in there, but unlike the movie, it's a huge, huge part of the plot. Here are some differences between the two:
1. As mentioned before, Beltochika's unborn child has extreme amounts of Newtype powers, and even saves Beltochika from being killed by Gyunei.
2. Quess is killed by Hathaway. Quess is about to kill Amuro who is preparing the Hi-Nu's Hyper Mega Beam Bazooka Launcher to bombard Axis, and Hathaway is left with little choice.
3. It's heavily hinted Nanai Miguel is pregnant, which leads people to believe (along with other evidence) that Victory Gundam's Usso Ebbing is a decendant of Char.
4. Axis' thrusters actually end up failing. So Char takes action and pushes it with the Nightengale.
5. There's a lot less melee combat.
6. It's made clear that both Amuro and Char die at the end, no question about it.

They chronicle the later life of Hathaway Noa, the son of Bright Noa, twelve years after the events of the Second Neo Zeon War as seen in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. The novel featured four new mobile suit designs by Moriki Yasuhiro, the mechanical designer of Hades Project Zeorymer. In Hathaway's Flash Hathaway Noa, still haunted by his past actions (not to mention the spirt of deceased Newtype Quess Paraya), joins a terrorist organization called Mafty and adopts the false name "Mafty Navue Erin". The organization Mafty is fighting a terrorist campaign against the Earth Federation government, and they are eventually able to acquire the incredibly powerful prototype Ξ Gundam, which Hathaway becomes the pilot of. Using the Ξ Gundam Mafty attempts to attack a meeting of high-ranking Federation cabinet members in Adelaide, Australia to force them to vote down a provision which would strengthen the Federations already considerable powers. As a point to note, this novel focuses on a version of events chronicled in creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's novelized form of Char's Counterattack, rather than his animated movie version, and as such, several discrepancies can be found between the animated work and this novel, making it more of a semi-canonical UC storyline, rather than 100% official canon.
Le cover dei due romanzi : Edit by PG: Ho rimpiazzato l'immagine larga con il thumbnail così anche su monitor non troppo larghi non si deve continuare a spostarsi a destra e sinistra per leggere.

5. There's a lot less melee combat.
6. It's made clear that both Amuro and Char die at the end, no question about it.
